The portrait captures Parrilla’s performance of an ancient dance figure: As she points her left index finger upwards towards a distant star, the palm of her right hand reflects the starlight into the face of her lover behind it. Bailaora’s magical invitation to dance the next dance with her traditionally lasts barely ‘one’ second, while the chosen partner’s eye-reading continues.
